Making Money with Articles: Article Directories

Article directories are websites that house free articles. These articles are usually put there by whoever owns the copyright to them as a promotion method. Each article has the owners byline placed under it so that those who eventually read the article will know who wrote it (or at least who owns it) and will be able to get in contact with or visit their website for further information.
Articles directories are a great place to put your articles so that they will make you money. By using this method, people who are interested in your product or service will see your article, view you as an expert in the subject, and will visit your website. Even if you cannot write or do not have any knowledge on the subject on which you are promoting (for example for you run an affiliate website), you can always hire a writer to do the work for you. Getting quality articles written will be expensive up front, but they will pay for themselves in no time, either through affiliate sales or selling your own services, and everything from then on is pure profit.
Let’s take a real life example. Imagine that you are an accountant working from home. You write an article on an accounting topic and place it on various article directories. Those who are looking for the subject you wrote about will read your article, see that you have the knowledge and skill that is needed to do a job for them, and visit your website or contact you via e-mail. Your article just gained you a new client who may use your services regularly, but will definitely give you a nice profit at least once.
Furthermore, since you have posted it on a free article directory, others who have affiliate websites about accounting will inevitably use your article for their website. Since they must attach your byline to it, this will bring you even more exposure for every website that re-posts your article. This because you will be benefiting of off the traffic that they get to their website.
There are numerous article directories out there for you to utilize. Your bet best is to put a copy of each of your articles on every one for maximum exposure. It will eventually help to bring more traffic and customers to your website, which will lead to new orders and more profit.

Making Money with Articles: What Kind of Experience Do I Need?

When you are trying to make money with articles, the beauty of it is that you don’t really need previous career related experience and that you can learn the ropes as you go. That being said, there are some skills that you will need to teach yourself or pick up along the way to make your sites successful. You can’t go in not knowing anything, not learning anything, and still expect to make a good income (or any income at all).
First, you will need to know how to pick out the correct articles to make your sites successful. There are many types of content, from free content to high dollar content, and each comes with its own advantages and disadvantages (although high dollar content is more likely to give you a successful site in the end).
Second, you will need to know how to choose keywords that can help you get a good amount of traffic, without being too competitive to get on the first or second page. If you choose highly competitive keywords that are used by large, mammoth website, you are likely to never get up to those much needed first two pages.
Third, you will need to know how to optimize your websites for various search engines. Search engine optimization skills will allow you to get high rankings for your chosen niche keywords, which will help to get visitors and make profit.
Fourth, if you opt for a large website that you will focus most of your internet marketing career on, you will also need to know how to market your website to your intended audience through paid banner ads and text links. If you prefer very small 2-5 page niche sites, then promoting all of them this way will not be cost effective and will eat up more profits than it is worth.
If you can capture some of these skills and attack them aggressively during your first few small websites or the first few months of a larger website, then you will eventually become an expert. Since you can learn the ropes first hand on your own, the only thing that you will need to do before you begin your new career is to read up on how to get started (maybe purchase an internet marketing e-book or two) and make sure that you have the funds available to start a small site.

Making Money with Articles: The Importance of Keywords

Keyword density and placement are important parts of optimizing your articles for search engines. Search engine spiders scan a page in a way that makes it important to place your keywords where they will be detected and recognized as a keyword, so that your article will come up when someone searches for that keyword.
What is a Keyword?
A keyword is a word that is going to be placed in your article several times, not just once as that would make every word a keyword. When a spider sees that you have a word placed several times in an article, it will determine that your page may be useful to users that search for such a keyword.
Over Optimizing Your Articles
It is important to note that there is also such a thing as over optimizing your articles for particular words, this is known as “keyword stuffing”. When you stuff keywords in an article a spider will detect that you are trying to trick it into placing your article high in the search engine results for that word, and will instead penalize your site and your page for doing such. This may even affect the rankings of your other pages or get your site blacklisted from a particular search engine if you are found keyword stuffing too many times.
What is Keyword Density?
Keyword density is how many times your keyword is placed in your article. Most use a percentage to determine how many times they will put a keyword in an article. For instance, if you have a 500 word article and want to achieve a keyword density of 5%, then you will need to have the keyword in your article exactly 25 times. You can find hundreds of resources and guides recommending one keyword density over another and the reasons behind the logic, however, in the end you will have to determine which density is more profitable for your articles. Each webmaster as their own density that they like to achieve based on past results. As long as you don’t over optimize and you are making sufficient profit from your rankings, then you can choose whatever keyword density you like.
The Right Density
No matter what exact density you choose, it is important to place keywords so that there are more at the beginning and end to produce an hour glass effect. Having the right keyword density in your article makes it more likely that you will make money off of that article because it will rise in the search engine results and be seen by more people.

"A Checklist for online business owners"

By Jim Daniels
I've always been a big "list" guy. Whether it's my daily "to do" list on my monthly calendar, or a piece of scrap paper with a list of groceries, I can put together one heckuva list.
I'm not sure if my memory is really that bad, or if they just put my mind at ease, but lists have always served me well.
Today I'm putting my "master list-making skills" to work for online business owners like myself. Whether you're a newcomer to the online business world or you're already engaged in a cyberbusiness, the following list should be on your desktop. It contains only the key items that make an online business tick.
Take a look at any successful online business. Nearly all of them utilize each and every item on this list. Do yourself a favor and print it. Until you can put a check next to each item, you're missing out on a real key online business component!
A real ISP.This may sound like a no-brainer, but if you're trying to do business online, you need unlimited, fast access to the internet. Be sure that you are able to use a 3rd party email program (see next checklist item) with their services. You also need an ISP that allows you to send as much email as you want. Additional Info
A professional email program. Are you still using AOL email for business? If so, you're missing out on lots of features that many savvy business owners rely on daily. Things like auto message filtering, blind carbon copying, auto-reply, multiple mailbox pickup just to name a few. A professional email program will allow you to utilize the low-cost e-marketing methods that are essential to your online business success.Recommended Email Program
A professional webmaster or web design software.A professional-looking website is a must in order to survive online. Unless you can learn to design a professional website yourself, you'll need the help of a webmaster or at the bare minimum a design program. The easiest route is to hire a webmaster with experience and a proven portfolio. Web design software for do-it-yourselfersExperienced webmasters for hire
Your own domain name.Although it seems cruel, the bottom line is this... If your company won't spring for a domain name at $35 a year, many potential customers will think twice before they even click to your site, let alone buy from you. Resources and additional info
A merchant account and secure credit card ordering. In order to make a serious income online, you MUST have a merchant account so that you can accept credit cards. Additionally, secure credit card ordering must be enabled at every business site. Every product or service you offer should display an "order" button that links to your secure order form.Resources and additional info
An online shopping cart system.A good shopping cart system gives you control over your products and services AND makes shopping at your site simple. Be sure to implement a system that is easy to set up and maintain.Resources and additional info
Free subscriptions.A constant flow of current information will keep you informed. I subscribe to over 100 free newsletters. Although I don't have time to read every issue of every ezine, I do make a point to at least scan them for new and important industry news and articles. Resources and additional info
Proprietary products and services. The best way to maximize profits, whether in the real world or online is to offer at least one product or service that you own the rights to. Either create something that the market demands or purchase exclusive rights.Resources and additional info
A reseller program.Call it what you want -- an affiliate, associate or reseller program. Your site needs one! This allows your happy customers to refer others to your site and earn money in the process. In turn, your marketing efforts are multiplied over and over. The reason you're seeing affiliate programs popping up at almost every major site, is because they work!Resources and additional info
Add-on products and services. From the other end of the reseller spectrum, you should always try to offer your customers products and services related to your own. Concentrate on products that create residual income for your company, such as web hosting services or software.Resources and additional info
Regularly scheduled email releases. The best way to accomplish this is via your own email newsletter or tip sheet. Whether you "stay in touch" weekly or monthly, the key is to do it regularly and offer something that people will want to read! Resources and additional info
Mission essential software. Before you try to succeed at online marketing, get the right tools for the job. There are software titles available on the internet that will do just about any task you can imagine. Utilize the new by downloading and sampling different tools for the task at hand. Example: If you're a web designer, you'll need graphics programs and html editors! ResourcesAdditional resources
A real-world catalog.Do you have something you can send to interested parties who find your website? Do you have a hard-copy catalog to send to people who purchase a product or service from you? With many businesses being started online, this important component is missing from their business plan. I know first-hand, I'm designing my catalog now - almost three years into my business venture!Additional Info

"Traffic Magnet"... The Genuine Article

By Jim Daniels

Fact: Most new, small business web sites take months to average just a few hundred visitors per week. At many of these sites, growth stalls indefinitely at that level. Unfortunately, lots of income just cannot be generated with these numbers.
Why such little traffic to so many of these sites?
Well, while there are a multitude of reasons, it basically comes down to this...
Most small business owners simply do not have a marketing budget big enough to properly "kick off" a new web site. What's more, web promotion is getting more and more difficult as the net is saturated with new sites daily.
With these facts in mind, I've put together some information on one of my favorite traffic generation tips today. It has been working for me for years, and it will work for you.
I like to call my little web traffic magnet, "The Genuine Article!"
"The Genuine Article" helped me grow my web site traffic to 8,000 visitors per month in just my second month of existence. Not a big deal to many larger web sites, but to a brand new site, not bad. Keep in mind, I had zero listings and a very limited budget. I still rely on this promotion method to bring cost-free, targeted traffic to my sites.
So exactly what is this traffic magnet and how can YOU use it?...
Simple. I write about what I do. That's it. Nothing more. I simply write a new article every few weeks. I then do two things with my articles.
1. I email my best articles to other publishers and webmasters. Since each article is filled with real, useful information on my area of expertise, (online marketing) many webmasters and ezine editors are happy to post the articles at their web sites and in their ezines.
Anyone can use this powerful promotion method no matter what you are promoting. Just visit this free ezine directory and gather some ezines on your area of expertise. Email each editor and ask them if they accept article submissions. Nearly all editors are happy to receive articles!
2. I also post my articles as stand alone web pages at my own site. (With reprint rights.) I do this, not only to allow more webmasters easy access to my articles. It also attracts more traffic through the search engines.
Here's how...
Every article that I post gets a fresh title and set of META tags, and a search engine submission. I also make sure that every article is keyword rich and I always try squeezing in a few extra keywords where appropriate. This helps with my search engine ranking and generates some very targeted traffic.
NOTE: Beware, there is a fine line between what search engines consider "the natural occurrence" of keywords and keyword "stuffing". If your document is a good read that happens to be keyword rich, you stand a much better chance at having it appear on a search engine than if is an obvious attempt at search engine trickery.
Next, I am very careful to "title" my article web pages tactfully. A few important components include keywords as well as a descriptive and intriguing nature. This results in not only better placement but more clicks.
The last thing I do as I build my "article" web pages is to place a link to my home page on every article. Readers who find my articles and want more information about the topic they are researching, can always simply click to my main site. Too many marketers leave out this important step.
Every few weeks I build another page -- different keyword rich pages, different subjects, and all linked to my main site home page.
So, are you using this creative and FREE marketing tool? If not, it's simple to start. Gather your best areas of expertise and start writing. Contact at least 25 other webmasters or ezine editors with the new article. Tell them about your article that would fit in perfectly with their site or publication. And don't forget to make every article into a separate web page at your site.
Absolutely anyone can utilize the "Genuine Article" and start growing a traffic magnet to their web site! You can even get started today without having to write an article. Just visit http://bizweb2000.com/articles.htm and gather any of mine you want. You see, I always practice what I preach!

Is Your 404 Error Page Making You Money?

Have you ever visited a website, but typed in the wrong url after the domain name? What did you see?
Chances are you saw a generic page that said something like, "The page cannot be displayed," or "Not Found,"or "The requested URL was not found on this server."
This is what is more commonly known as the 404 ErrorPage. It's the page that shows up by default when someone 'accidentally' types in the address of the page they are looking for on your site incorrectly.
Now, in many cases, it truly happens by mistake. However,in many other instances, people end up on this page because they are snooping around trying to look for your download page or thank you page without having to pay or opt-in. Kind of shady, but people do it.
Why, not capitalize on it whether they are doing it purposely or they are truly ending up there by accident. If you have your own website and it gets traffic, some of your visitors are ending up on that page. Now, if they are seeing the generic message that their browser shows them when it happens, then you are not making good use of your web real estate.
Every page of your website can put money in your pocket.Even your 404 error page. You can customize that page just like any other page on your website.
Some ideas to utilize on that page include:
-Making an special offer at a discounted price.-Having it be a squeeze page.-Making it an Adsense page.-Redirecting it to a related affiliate product.
Those are just a few of the many different, yet profitable types of ways you can make good use of your 404 error page.
It won't make you rich, but it definitely will put some extra money in your account. Maybe it will help you pay one of your bills, or you can just reinvest it into your business.
Either way, if you don't customize this page, you can be leaving money on the table. Having something for your visitors to see that end up on that page is extremely more beneficial to you then not having anything on that page.
Here's to making good use of every page on your website.

All the best,Brett.
